Steve Martin to get film tribute
ASPEN, Colo. (AP) -- Steve Martin came back to town on business and planned to
look up some long-lost acquaintances.
"Especially that girl who said, 'you're never going to go anywhere,'" quipped
Martin, in town Thursday for the U.S. Comedy Arts Festival.
The comedian and actor, who lived in Aspen during the mid-1970s, will be honored
Saturday with an American Film Institute tribute.
A host of funny people have descended on the trendy town for the four-day
festival, including soon-to-be talk show host Rosie O'Donnell and Saturday Night
Live alumnus Dennis Miller.
Bill Maher, the ever politically incorrect Comedy Central host, called Aspen a
tough town to play.
"The worst thing an audience can be is if they think they're hip and they're
really not," he said. "You get some of that here. I think Aspen might be a
candidate for one of our 'get-over-yourself' awards."
