Martin turning 'Traitor' for Disney
By Zorianna Kit
In a move that marks a departure for the entertainer, Steve Martin is
bringing to the big screen a suspense thriller based on his own idea that
Jeffrey Nachmanoff is now writing. Martin is executive producing for the
Walt Disney Co. and Mandeville Pictures. Martin will not be starring in the
project, titled "Traitor," but will work closely with Nachmanoff on the
script, whose plot line is being kept under wraps but is described as a
topical, politically relevant story dealing international terrorism and U.S.
traitors.
"Traitor" will be produced by Mandeville Pictures' David Hoberman and
executive produced by Mandeville president Todd Lieberman. The duo produced
and co-produced, respectively, the upcoming Martin starrer at Disney,
"Bringing Down the House," when they were still partnered with Ashok
Amritraj in Hyde Park Entertainment.
In September, the partnership dissolved and Hoberman signed a three-year,
first-look deal with Disney and named Lieberman president (HR 9/5). Because
"Traitor" originated during the group's collaboration on "House," Amritraj
will executive produce "Traitor," while "House" director Adam Shankman will
also be involved in a producing capacity.
Disney's Jason Reed is the executive overseeing the project.
Martin, repped by ICM, most recently wrote the screenplay to Lakeshore
Entertainment's "Shopgirl," based on his novel, in which he will also star
in and executive produce.
Nachmanoff, repped by the Gersh Agency and attorney Fred Gaines, wrote "The
Day After Tomorrow" and is in production at 20th Century Fox with Dean
Devlin directing.
